Chateau Haut Segottes St Emilion Grand Cru 2020 750ml
FRANCE : BORDEAUX : SAINT-ÉMILION GRAND CRU
ORGANIC : Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon
FULL-BODIED, CASSIS, DARK PLUM, CEDAR, GRAPHITE, OLD OAK
Danielle Meunier is the fourth generation of her family to farm these nine hectares — parcels in three lieux-dits, including Fortin, 300 meters from Cheval Blanc on the western clay plateau. She's run the estate since 1972, farms organically, and works with the same trio of viticulturists who know every vine. The wine she makes is systematically underpriced for its pedigree and its address.
Though planted 60% Merlot, the final blend leans heavily on Cabernet Franc — sometimes 65% or more — explaining why this wine carries more structure and aging potential than most Saint-Émilion Grand Crus at this price. Concrete-vat fermentation with native yeasts, 12–18 months in old oak (20% new), bottled unfiltered. The 2020: exceptional across the appellation, clay soils holding through the summer drought until the August post-veraison rains did exactly what they needed to.
PAIRINGS :
| Herb-crusted rack of lamb | Cab Franc's leafy edge echoes the herbs; structure handles the fat. |
| Duck confit with lentils | Tannin and acidity cut the richness; dark fruit pairs with the earthiness. |
| Braised short ribs | The 2020's concentration and long finish reward slow-cooked beef. |
