Doce Mezcal is founded by women — women-owned and Black-owned — in partnership with the Blas family’s third-generation distillery in Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca, led by Maestra Mezcalera Margarita Blas. The collaboration keeps production rooted in tradition while bringing a new generation of craft to the brand.

The agave is Capon Espadin — hearts allowed to reach full peak maturity, with the quiote (flower stalk) removed to concentrate all remaining energy into the piña. Roasted in underground pits with a minimum of pine and oak wood (the restrained roast is intentional), then double distilled in copper pot stills. Bottled at 46% ABV with no additives. The result earned Best Mezcal at the Las Vegas Global Spirit Awards 2022 (Gold, 93 pts) and a Silver at Bartender Spirits Awards 2024. The smoke is there — charred wood and saline earth — but it’s a finish, not the whole story.
