Winemaker Larry Levin spent 17 vintages at Dry Creek Vineyard before nine years overseeing labels like Mondavi, Quintessa, and Ravenswood at Icon Estates. Grayson Cellars is what happened when the O'Connell family asked him to apply that Napa experience at an accessible price — sourcing Merlot from California's better-suited growing regions and vinifying it in Napa.
The 2020 lands ripe and giving: black cherry preserve and dark plum on the nose, white chocolate and vanilla on the finish. The 2020 California harvest was marked by wildfire smoke across much of the state; this came through intact. Wine Enthusiast 85.
