Maker's Mark is a wheated bourbon, built on a mash bill of 70% corn, 16% soft red winter wheat, and 14% malted barley — wheat replacing rye as the flavor grain, and the reason it runs smoother than most Kentucky bourbons at this price point. Every barrel is rotated by hand through the aging warehouses at Star Hill Farm to even out temperature variation and drive consistency batch to batch.

The profile holds: brown sugar and candied cherry on the nose, buttery caramel and baked apple on the palate, a medium finish of oak spice, nutmeg, and cinnamon. The red wax seal is still hand-dipped at the Loretto distillery — a practice Margie Samuels started in the late 1950s when she designed the bottle, the label, and the name.
