Pago del Cielo Celeste Ribera del Duero Crianza 2022 750ml
SPAIN : RIBERA DEL DUERO : FOMPEDRAZA
SUSTAINABLE : Tinto Fino (Tempranillo)
FULL-BODIED, DARK CHERRY, BLACKBERRY JAM, COFFEE, OAK
Pago del Cielo's vineyards sit at 790–900 meters in the Fompedraza area, on the cooler, higher-elevation fringe of Ribera del Duero — limestone and marl soils, long growing seasons, and diurnal swings that hold structure intact. The 2022 vintage was early and hot, but the altitude kept things in balance.
Twelve months in French and American oak (55/45, 17% new), then a full year in bottle before release. Wine Enthusiast called it 93 points and a Best Buy in February 2026: "A refreshing nose of perfectly ripened red and blue fruits segues into a sleek palate profile. The tannins do catch up but the underlying delicacy serves to harmonize."
Pago del Cielo is Familia Torres's Ribera del Duero estate — fifth-generation family out of Catalonia, founded 1870, sustainability built into the operation since 2008.
PAIRINGS :
| Slow-braised lamb shoulder | classic Ribera match — earthy depth and dark fruit align naturally |
| Dry-aged ribeye | tannin structure holds against the fat; oak complements any char |
| Manchego (6-month) | regional affinity; semi-firm texture cuts the tannic grip without overpowering |
