Scrappy's Bitters has been handcrafted in Seattle since 2008 by founder Miles Thomas, a bartender who spent years developing what he couldn’t find on the market. The Chocolate Bitters are built on organic toasted cacao nibs and gentian root — dark chocolate and brown sugar up front, with a coffee note on the finish that adds nuance to spirit-forward cocktails.

A few dashes lift an Old Fashioned or Manhattan, pulling out the spirit’s deeper character without muddying it. Drinkhacker rated these A−, noting the balance between clear dark chocolate and sweetness as what makes them one of the most versatile bitters in the lineup.
