Alain Brumont Cotes de Gascogne Rouge 2022 750mL
FRANCE : SOUTHWEST FRANCE : GASCONY
Merlot, Tannat
MED-BODIED, RED CHERRY, RASPBERRY, SPICE, SOFT TANNINS, NO OAK
Alain Brumont built his reputation in Madiran — the neighboring appellation where Tannat goes deep, tannic, and age-worthy. This is his Gascony label, and the 50/50 Merlot-Tannat split is a deliberate calibration: Merlot rounds the mid-palate and opens the wine up early; Tannat brings generosity and color without the grip. Twelve months in stainless vat, no oak.
Brumont's Peyrusquet clay soils are specific to this corner of Southwest France and contribute a slightly savory mineral backbone that keeps the red fruit from reading too soft. A reliable everyday red from a serious producer at the top of his range.
PAIRINGS :
| Duck confit | the regional meat; Tannat handles the fat while Merlot stays fresh alongside it |
| Cassoulet | the definitive Southwest French dish; soft tannins and red fruit work with beans and duck |
| Pâté or terrine | earthy, fermented charcuterie finds the wine's spice and mineral backbone |
