Arnaldo Rossi Toscana GemmaRosa Rosato 2021 750ml
ITALY : TUSCANY
NATURAL : Sanforte, Sangiovese
MED-BODIED, RASPBERRY, POMEGRANATE, DRIED HERBS, SAVORY, NEUTRAL OAK
Arnaldo Rossi came to winemaking through the back door — an innkeeper in Cortona who planted his first vines in 2004 to supply his restaurant. The GemmaRosa comes from his most unusual plot: century-old vines trained up field maple trees in the pre-industrial "married vine" tradition, nearly extinct in Tuscany today. It's a field blend of Sanforte, Sangiovese, and varieties Rossi hasn't fully identified.
After roughly 20 hours of skin contact, the wine ferments with native yeast and ages five months in neutral oak — not for oak flavor, but for the stability that barriques provide during slow élevage. Unfiltered. Production is around 500 bottles a vintage. The result has more structure and savory depth than its rosé category suggests.
PAIRINGS :
| Prosciutto e melone | the savory herb edge grips the cured pork; skin-contact tannin holds up to fat |
| Grilled swordfish with capers and olives | briny Mediterranean flavors match the wine's savory character; structure is right for firm fish |
| Panzanella | ripe tomato, basil, and olive oil echo the berry and herb notes — Tuscany in a bowl |
