Bikicki’s ‘Veca’ is one of the few wines available in the US built entirely on Crna Tamjanika — Black Muscat — an indigenous Balkan grape that reads more like a dark floral than any recognizable red variety. Four days of skin maceration, spontaneous fermentation on native yeasts in neutral French barrique, and a year of elevage produce a wine that is both intensely pigmented and surprisingly fresh. Just 1,427 numbered bottles were made.
Đorđe Bikicki farms 8 certified-organic hectares at Banoštor, on the northern slopes of Fruška Gora above the Danube. The mountain sits on the 45th parallel alongside Bordeaux, Piedmont, and the Willamette Valley — its terroir credentials go back centuries. Consulting winemaker Oszkar Maurer — Serbia’s most influential natural wine figure — shaped the minimal-intervention approach.
