Bodegas Borsao Tres Picos Garnacha 2021 750ml
SPAIN : ARAGON : CAMPO DE BORJA
CONVENTIONAL : Grenache
FULL-BODIED, BLACK CHERRY, DARK PLUM, CHOCOLATE SPICE, VIOLET, NEW OAK
Campo de Borja has one claim: Garnacha. Tucked against the Moncayo massif in Aragon, the DO's vineyards average 30–50 years old, most on clay-limestone soils at 600–700 meters, farmed by the same families that founded the Borja cooperative in 1958. Tres Picos draws from the oldest block in that portfolio — vines up to 60 years old, well under five tons per hectare.
Twenty to 25 days of maceration, then five months in new French oak barriques. The oak reads in the glass — vanilla, cedar, the toasty edge that marks it — but the tannins are broad and rolling, and the fruit has the concentration to carry the wood. Wine Enthusiast 92, Best Buy; Wine Spectator 90; James Suckling 91.
PAIRINGS :
| Slow-roasted lamb shoulder | full body and tannins hold against the fat; dark fruit echoes the herbs |
| Jamón ibérico & Manchego | salt and age in both cut the oak and pull out the fruit |
| Grilled chorizo & roasted peppers | the regional food match for Campo de Borja Garnacha |
