Castellu D'Alba Corse Vinu Rossu 2020 750ml
FRANCE : CORSICA
ORGANIC : Sciaccarello, Nielluccio, Minustellu
MED-BODIED, RED CHERRY, WILD HERBS, SALTY MINERALITY, SOFT TANNINS
Castellu d’Alba is a joint project between winemaker Emmanuel Venturi of Clos Venturi and the Cardosi family, working 14 hectares outside Linguizzetta on Corsica’s eastern coast. The site sits at 95 meters in Miocene sableux — ancient marine sediment over fossilized limestone — with clementine trees throughout the vineyard and northeast/southeast exposition to the Mediterranean. Sciaccarello, Nielluccio, and Minustellu ferment with indigenous yeasts and age in foudre before bottling unfiltered, with sulfites at the organic minimum.
The wine sits closer to the Italian side of Corsica’s character than the French — sour cherry and red fruit with wild herbs and a salty, rocky finish that reads as distinctly coastal Mediterranean. Soft tannins, good freshness, and just enough structure to carry a table of food.
PAIRINGS :
| Corsican charcuterie — lonzu, coppa, figatellu | the regional match; no overthinking required |
| Braised lamb with rosemary and olives | herbal and mineral notes in the wine mirror the aromatics; moderate tannins cut the fat |
| Pasta with wild mushrooms and fresh herbs | the earthy, herbal character carries into savory mushroom dishes without overwhelming |
