Chateau de Sales Pomeral 2019 750ml
FRANCE : BORDEAUX : POMEROL
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
FULL-BODIED, BLACK CHERRY, BLACKCURRANT, CEDAR, DRIED SPICE, NEUTRAL OAK
Château de Sales has been in the same family since 1464 — the longest unbroken family tenure in Bordeaux — and at 47.8 hectares it is the largest single vineyard in the Pomerol appellation. Harvested between September 20 and October 8, 2019 from sandy gravel and clay soils threaded with iron oxide deposits — crasse de fer — that mark this corner of the Right Bank. Aged 12–18 months in French oak, 15% new.
The 2019 represents the strongest showing from the estate in recent memory, reflecting a quality shift that began with the hiring of technical director Frédéric Laborde and consulting winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet in 2017. Decanter awarded 96 points — suave and charming, well worked with lots of precise details with such a minty fresh finish. Best from 2026, window to 2034.
PAIRINGS :
| Braised short ribs | dark fruit and firm tannins absorb the collagen-rich braise |
| Roast duck with cherry sauce | mirrors the wine's red fruit and savory depth |
| Aged Comté | nutty crystalline character echoes cedar and dried spice on the finish |
