The Vieilles Vignes Sur Silex occupies a specific place in the Berthier lineup — old vines on pure silex (flint) soils, no limestone, where the mineral character runs deeper and the structure is firmer than the classic cuvée. The stone shows up directly: grapefruit and white flowers on the nose, a clean racy attack on the palate, a finish with real mineral persistence.
Clement and Florian Berthier have farmed organically since 2013 — certified in 2022 — picking late and aging on fine lees for up to twelve months in stainless steel. The 2022 vintage produced a richer, more concentrated version than the leaner 2021; the old vines on pure silex hold the acidity and keep the finish precise.
