Comando G 'La Bruja de Rozas' 2023 750ml
SPAIN : CASTILLA Y LEÓN : SIERRA DE GREDOS
BIODYNAMIC : Garnacha
MEDIUM BODY, CRUSHED RASPBERRY, DRIED ROSE, IRON, GRANITE MINERAL, NEUTRAL OAK
At 1,000 meters in the granite foothills of the Sierra de Gredos, Garnacha produces something the rest of Spain does not: pale, perfumed reds with the structure of mountain stone and the aromatic lift of Burgundy. Comando G was founded in 2007 by Fernando García and Marc Isart to rescue the old-vine vineyards of the Rozas de Puerto Real village from cooperative obscurity. The vines are 60 years old, dry-farmed on decomposed granite and sand, and certified biodynamic since the 2018 vintage.
La Bruja de Rozas — the witch of Rozas — is their village wine: 100% old-vine Garnacha, native-fermented with whole clusters, then aged 8 months in large-format neutral oak foudres and bottled without fining or filtration. The 2023 is the final vintage of this wine in its current form. Wine Advocate gave it 95 points. Wine Spectator placed it #88 on the Top 100 of 2025.
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled lamb chops with sea salt | the classic Gredos mountain match — iron notes in the wine echo the char |
| Wild mushroom croquetas | earthy depth in the wine lifts against creamy filling; fine tannins hold the weight |
| Aged Manchego | sheep's-milk fat and salt against high-altitude acidity and granite mineral finish |
