Dan Marioni is a fifth-generation Sonoman who left mechanical engineering to learn winemaking at Coturri — the most influential natural wine operation in California — then launched his own label in 2019. The 2019 Merlo comes from the Olson Vineyard on Sonoma Mountain, planted by the Coturris in 1996 and never treated with a chemical spray of any kind: 26-year-old vines on loam, farmed organic and biodynamic, hand punch-downed through the whole process.
No additions, nothing taken away. Native yeast fermentation, neutral oak for 12 months, unfined and unfiltered. This was the last Marioni vintage made at Coturri Winery before Dan moved operations — which means it carries both lineages: a Sonoma Mountain Merlot with the Coturri fingerprint still on it.
