CERTIFIED BIODYNAMIC : Pinot Noir
MED-BODIED, DARK RED FRUIT, SANDALWOOD, ORANGE ZEST, SALINE, NEUTRAL OAK
Roncevie is a parcel in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin — a stone's throw from Griottes-Chambertin — that the Arlaud family has farmed biodynamically for over 60 years. The vines should bottle as Gevrey-Chambertin Villages; half the lieu-dit still does. Arlaud's half was reclassified as regional Bourgogne for political reasons: the family is from Morey-Saint-Denis, not Gevrey. The wine doesn't carry that grudge.
Cyprien Arlaud ferments with indigenous yeast in cement vats, ages in strictly neutral oak, and bottles unfined and unfiltered. The 2021 shows the cooler side of the vintage — dark plum, incense, orange zest, a saline finish — with Wine Advocate and Vinous both at 88 points. The 2022, when available, runs slightly riper: blueberry and raspberry, juicy through the finish with a hint of baking spice.
PAIRINGS :
| Porcini mushroom ragu | earthy depth meets the wine's mineral backbone; the classic Burgundy pairing |
| Roast chicken with herbes de Provence | the house village Burgundy match — enough structure for poultry without overwhelming |
| Comte or Gruyere | the saline, mineral finish pairs naturally with aged cow's-milk cheese |
*Low Sulfite.
