Domaine de la Bergerie has been in the Guégniard family since 1961, when the estate was first established on the clay-schist slopes of Anjou, in Champ-sur-Layon. Anne and Marie Guégniard — daughters of Yves Guégniard and the fourth generation on the property — took over the estate together and have guided it through a full conversion to organic viticulture, earning Ecocert certification in 2016. The 89-acre estate sprawls across multiple Loire appellations: Anjou, Savennières, Côteaux du Layon, and Quarts de Chaume.
The Crémant is 70% Chenin Blanc from clay-schist soils in Champ-sur-Layon and 30% Chardonnay from sand and gravel in nearby Rablay-sur-Layon. Made by méthode champenoise, the wine undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle, then rests sur lie for two to three years before disgorging — brut nature, meaning zero dosage. The result is less sweet, more mineral, and more age-integrated than most Crémant in this price range.
PAIRINGS :
| Oysters on the half shell | the zero-dosage dryness and Chenin's mineral edge are the classic match |
| Poached sole with beurre blanc | brioche notes in the wine meet the richness of the sauce without fighting it |
| Aged goat cheese (Selles-sur-Cher) | the regional pairing — Loire sparkling, Loire cheese, acidity cuts through the lactic creaminess |
