E.J. Curley coined the term “Bluegrass” for Kentucky bourbon in 1867, ran DSP #15 along the Kentucky River Palisades in Jessamine County, and once sold 8,600 barrels to a single Chicago buyer in what was then the largest bourbon transaction ever recorded. In 1902 he formed the Distillers Securities Corporation, which controlled the great majority of Kentucky bourbon production.

The brand has been revived under President Matthew Parker, with Master Blender Ashley Barnes — ex-Buffalo Trace and Four Roses — hand-selecting each small batch from sourced Kentucky straight bourbon. Silver medals at both the ADI International Spirits Competition and the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
