SUSTAINABLE : Pinot Noir
MEDIUM-BODIED, SPICED BLACK CHERRY, BAKED BERRY TART, CEDAR, BAKING SPICE, ROSES
EnRoute is a Far Niente side project — launched in 2007 by partners Jeremy Nickel, Dirk Hampson, and Larry Maguire to chase what the Russian River Valley does better than anywhere else in California. Winemaker Andrew Delos pulls from three sustainably-farmed estate sites — Northern Spy, Amber Ridge, and Manzana Hill — all in the cool Green Valley and upper Middle Reach corridors, where Pacific fog hangs long enough to keep ripening slow and acidity intact.
The 2023 scores 93 points from both Wine Enthusiast and James Suckling. On the nose: Bing cherry, muddled blackberry, and candied orange peel framed by baking spice and Oolong tea. The palate is generous but controlled — soft dark berry with cedar, shiitake, and roses drifting through the finish. Silky tannins, true Russian River acidity.
PAIRINGS :
| Duck confit | dark cherry echoes the fruit; acidity cuts through the fat |
| King salmon | RRV Pinot and Pacific salmon — the classic match |
| Mushroom risotto | earthy depth mirrors the wine's shiitake and forest floor notes |
