Fernet Branca 750ml
ITALY : LOMBARDY
Grape Neutral Spirit, 27+ Botanicals (Rhubarb, Gentian, Galanga, Chamomile)
FULL-BODIED, DARK CHOCOLATE, DRIED PLUM, MENTHOL, BITTER ESPRESSO, OAK-RESTED
Milan's original bitter digestivo, unchanged since Bernardino Branca formulated it in 1845 and still made by the same family six generations later. A grape-based neutral spirit carries the infusion of more than two dozen botanicals — Chinese rhubarb, French gentian, Indian or Sri Lankan galanga — through a year in Slovenian oak vats that mellow the sharpness without adding oak flavor.
The result is assertively bitter by design: dark chocolate and dried plum up front, a medicinal edge of tree bark and dried herb underneath, and a big minty, bitter-espresso finish. It outsells its Italian home market in Argentina, where fernet and cola is close to a national drink, and it's the shot bartenders reach for at the end of a shift — earning it the nickname "the bartender's handshake."
SUGGESTED SERVES :
| Neat, cold | the standard bar-industry serve — full bitterness, no dilution |
| Fernet and cola | Argentina's default pour — softens the bitterness into something sessionable |
| Hanky Panky cocktail | a dash alongside gin and sweet vermouth adds bitter backbone without taking over |
