Knights Valley sits at Sonoma's northeastern edge, sharing a border with Napa County and growing in the volcanic shadow of Mount Saint Helena. The valley is Sonoma's warmest AVA, but cool evening temperatures preserve acidity and keep the fruit from going soft. Soils are rocky, low-fertility volcanic and alluvial gravel — the kind that stresses the vine and concentrates the berry.
2022 was a warm, dry growing season with a heat event in early September that compressed ripening and pushed winemakers to pick decisively. Smaller-than-average berry and cluster sizes delivered intense color and concentrated dark fruit. The result is a structured, dark-fruited Cabernet with the graphite-mineral underpinning Knights Valley is known for — an appellation that routinely trades punches with Napa at a fraction of the price.
