Gvantsa's Wine Aladasturi Red 2023 750ml
GEORGIA : IMERETI : OBCHA
NATURAL : Aladasturi
LIGHT-BODIED, RED BERRY, CRANBERRY, DRIED ROSE, FLINT, NO OAK
Gvantsa Abuladze makes the reds and rosés; her sister Baia makes the whites. Both work out of a family estate in the village of Obcha, where 16-year-old vines grow on clay-limestone soils at altitude. The Aladasturi — a native Imeretian variety so delicate it can double as a rosé — is fermented in buried qvevri with two months of skin contact, no sulfites before or during fermentation, and bottled unfiltered with a minimal 50–60 ppm sulfite addition.
Garnet-hued and light on its feet at 11% ABV, this is a wine for people bored with heavy reds. Worth a slight chill before serving.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast pork shoulder | fruit-forward acidity cuts through fat; spice in the wine echoes seasoning |
| Hard aged cheese (Manchego, Comté) | tannin holds up to cheese fat; red fruit brightens the pairing |
| Grilled mushrooms with garlic | earthy minerality bridges easily with fungi |
