Red Mountain is Washington’s smallest and warmest AVA — the combination of basalt soils and intense sun produces concentrated, tannic reds with real cellaring potential. Hedges Family Estate has farmed these five vineyards biodynamically since 2008, achieving full Demeter certification across all five by 2021.
The 2022 blend runs 60% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec rounding the edges. A challenging season — snow in April, a late harvest that ran through November — ultimately delivered a bountiful and delicious crop, per the winery. Aged in 49% new oak, the 2022 has the structural depth to improve over the next decade. James Suckling: 92 points. Jeb Dunnuck: 91.
