Henri Bourgeois La Porte Du Caillou Sancerre Rose 2023 750ml
FRANCE : LOIRE VALLEY : SANCERRE
ORGANIC : Pinot Noir
LIGHT-BODIED, CRANBERRY, RED CHERRY, WHITE TEA, DRIED FLOWERS, NO OAK
Sancerre is Sauvignon Blanc country — but Henri Bourgeois has spent ten generations in Chavignol proving that Pinot Noir grown on these Kimmeridgian-marl and flint hillsides makes something just as precise and worth seeking out. La Porte du Caillou — named for the old stone gate at the family's Chavignol winery — is the estate's rosé entry point: the same organically farmed fruit, the same careful hand in the cellar, in a lighter and more approachable register.
The color comes from the saignée method: Pinot Noir macerates cold for 48 hours before free-run juice is bled off and fermented in stainless steel, then rested on fine lees for 3 to 4 months for added texture and depth. 2023 was the estate's first certified-organic vintage — completing years of conversion across all 70+ hectares — and Wine Enthusiast awarded 91 points.
PAIRINGS :
| Chilled poached salmon with lemon-caper butter | cranberry acidity cuts through the richness; a Loire classic |
| Niçoise salad | tartness handles anchovy and olive without getting overwhelmed |
| Grilled chicken with herbes de Provence | herbal notes in wine and dish mirror each other; both lean toward the garrigue |
