Pinot Noir off the clay and limestone slopes around Chavignol, fresher and more Loire-tense than its Burgundian counterpart, and happy with a light chill.
The Bourgeois family has farmed this village for ten generations, working more than a hundred parcels across Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé and vinifying each one separately. The reds macerate twelve days on the skins, then go into French oak with a third of the barrels renewed each year, which gives structure without burying the fruit.
2023 was a hard vintage across much of the Loire, but Sancerre came through it well: picking started in mid-September and the Pinot Noir came in ripe and balanced, at slightly generous yields.
