Golan Heights Winery was founded in 1983 by a collective of kibbutzim and moshavim on the volcanic plateau of the Golan — the northernmost and highest appellation in Israel, with vineyards sitting between 1,300 and 3,900 feet above sea level. The region gets winter snowfall, summer heat that moderates with elevation, and a growing season long enough to ripen Bordeaux varieties at 14% without sacrificing structure. Head winemaker Victor Schoenfeld has run the cellar since 1992.
Mount Hermon is the winery's value line — the same sustainable viticulture and Bordeaux-variety sourcing as their Yarden tier, fermented in stainless steel to keep the fruit front and center. Kosher certified and Kosher for Passover, non-mevushal. Wine Enthusiast called it a Best Buy at 92 points: "pencil-shaving-dusted raspberry slides into cranberry-encrusted red cherry flanked by Darjeeling tea and a handful of dried herbs."
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled lamb skewers | the classic Galilee table match; dried herbs in the wine mirror the seasoning |
| Rotisserie chicken | medium weight and bright red fruit work against poultry without overpowering it |
| Garlic mushroom fondue | earthy notes and light tannin find their footing against the fungi |
