La Bastide Blanche Bandol Rose 2023 750ml
La Bastide Blanche Bandol Rose 2023 750ml
FRANCE : PROVENCE : BANDOL AOC
BIODYNAMIC : Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Grenache, Clairette
MED-BODIED, NECTARINE, WILD STRAWBERRY, DRIED LAVENDER, SALINE MINERAL, NO OAK
La Bastide Blanche has been one of Bandol's reference points since Michel and Louis Bronzo acquired the estate in the early 1970s — their 1993 is still the vintage locals cite when the conversation turns to how long this rosé can go. Biodynamically farmed since 2020 (organic since 2012), with 28-year-old vines in Sainte-Anne du Castellet's clay-limestone soils, yields capped below 35 hl/ha.
The 2023 is direct-pressed with 24 hours of cold maceration, then aged in stainless tank for up to ten months — considerably longer than most Provence rosés, and what gives this wine its depth. Vinous awarded it 92 points and called it "deep, complex and layered," noting "savory, salty mineral tones meet red berry freshness and an undercurrent of spice." Worth seeking out.
PAIRINGS :
| Bouillabaisse | saline mineral core pulls the saffron broth together; Mourvèdre weight handles the shellfish |
| Grilled whole sea bream | coastal terroir meets coastal protein; salinity amplifies both |
| Niçoise salad with anchovies | red berry and herb character mirrors the dish; acidity cuts the olive oil and olives |
