La Caña Albarino 2024 750ml
SPAIN : GALICIA : RÍAS BAIXAS
CERTIFIED ORGANIC : Albariño
LIGHT-BODIED, APRICOT, WHITE CHERRY, CHAMOMILE, SALINE MINERAL, NEUTRAL OAK
The name “La Caña” pays homage to the cañas — straw-like reeds that line the shores of Galicia’s rías (coastal inlets), where the Albariño grape first caught Jorge Ordóñez’s eye. His mission: to honor traditional, authentic expressions of Albariño, steering clear of mass-market, overly simplistic versions.
Sourced from organically farmed old vines (planted 1975–2001) across three Rías Baixas sub-zones, fermented 25% in large neutral barrels and 75% in stainless steel, then aged 8 months sur lie. The barrel portion contributes texture without oak flavor — 91 pts Wine Spectator, 92 pts Vinous, 93 pts Peñín.
PAIRINGS :
| Ceviche | saline mineral acidity mirrors and amplifies the citrus brightness of the marinade |
| Steamed clams (almejas a la gallega) | Galicia’s most celebrated preparation — the wine was made for this dish |
| Jamón ibérico with Manchego | classic Spanish aperitif match; honey notes play against the nutty, aged cheese |
