Maison Foucher Lebrun is a third-generation négociant founded in 1921 in Aligny-Cosne, 30 kilometers northeast of Sancerre. The domaine is co-directed by Jacky Foucher and Jean Mounard — a former Fine and Rare wine merchant in Paris whose career was built around DRC, Mouton-Rothschild, and Leflaive — who joined in 2009 to develop small-batch wines from selected Loire Valley plots. Le Mont sources Pinot Noir from parcels in Sancerre, Chavignol, and d'Amigny, then ages it minimally to preserve the red fruit.
The 2021 was the year Sancerre producers invoked the old saying “année en 1, année de rien” — a year ending in one is a year of nothing — after brutal April frosts halved normal yields. Pinot Noir, already breaking bud, was the hardest hit. What made it through a wet summer and a fine October came out leaner and more mineral than warmer vintages: red cherry, cassis, and a cool herbal edge, held by slightly firm but integrated tannins.
PAIRINGS :
| Roast chicken | the acidity and red fruit lift without overpowering white meat |
| Crottin de Chavignol | the local Sancerre goat cheese — a classic regional pairing |
| Mushroom risotto | earthy umami plays against the wine's herbal, cherry notes |
