Founded in 1870 by George Garvin Brown, a pharmaceutical salesman who believed whiskey could only be guaranteed pure if sealed at the distillery, Old Forester became America's first bottled bourbon. The brand operated through Prohibition as one of only six distilleries licensed to sell whiskey for medicinal purposes — a distinction still printed on the label today.

The Classic 86 Proof has anchored the lineup since 1959, distilled at Brown-Forman's Shively Distillery in Louisville on the brand's signature high-rye mash bill. Vanilla and caramel lead the nose with nutmeg and dried fruit underneath. The palate is gentle and round — rye spice keeps it honest, oak gives it structure — approachable enough for a highball, substantial enough to sip.
