Rich and layered (but light), this Pét Nat from the Osmote family's small winery on the eastern shore of Seneca Lake is equally beautiful in the glass as it is on the palate: a deep, dark – almost opaque – purple color rimmed with lovely fuchsia bubbles, the wine itself has lush bramble fruit with mint, violet and woodsy notes alongside zingy acidity and chalky tannins.
Ben Riccardi makes pét nats the way they're supposed to be made — bottled mid-ferment, sealed under crown cap, the residual CO2 doing all the work. No dosage, no additions. Wine Enthusiast awarded the 2023 vintage 90 points, calling it "all the fun, funkiness of a natty-leaning fizz." 10% ABV.
