Quinta da Raza was the first estate in the entire Vinho Verde DOC to receive certification under ViniPortugal's National Sustainability Standard — a high bar covering vineyard management, water use, biodiversity, and labor. The estate's origins trace to 1791; the fifth generation manages it now from their hilltop property in Celorico de Basto.
Basto is the southeastern interior of Vinho Verde, farther from the Atlantic and higher than the coastal zones most drinkers picture. At 250m on granite and schist soils, the wines have more structure and mineral tension than the lower-valley, high-volume Vinho Verde that dominates the category. Three native varieties — Arinto for citrus brightness, Azal for structural acidity, Trajadura for body and aromatic lift.
