Rocamadre Paraje Altamira Malbec 2023 750ml
ARGENTINA : MENDOZA : PARAJE ALTAMIRA
SUSTAINABLE : Malbec
MED-FULL-BODIED, BLACK CHERRY, VIOLET, BLUEBERRY, ANDEAN MINERAL, NO OAK
Juanfa Suarez comes from a fourth-generation Mendoza wine family and founded Rocamadre — "mother rock" in Spanish — with his wife Cecilia in 2017 in Paraje Altamira, the Uco Valley's highest-elevation GI. The name describes what matters here: the alluvial limestone beneath 25-year-old Malbec vines at 1,050 meters, fed by Andean meltwater through century-old acequia canals.
No oak — the decision to age entirely in stainless steel keeps the focus on Paraje Altamira's mineral character rather than the barrel. The violet and black cherry character of high-altitude Malbec reads more precise here than at lower elevations in Mendoza, with a cool, chalky finish that the warmer valley floor cannot produce.
PAIRINGS :
| Grilled ribeye | classic Malbec-steak pairing; the mineral note adds complexity to char and fat |
| Lamb chops with herbs | violet and blueberry complement lamb's gaminess; herbs echo the wine's aromatics |
| Mushroom risotto | mineral note aligns with mushrooms; unoaked style doesn't overwhelm a delicate risotto |
