Taylor Fladgate Tawny Port 750ml
PORTUGAL : DOURO
Touriga Nacional
FULL-BODIED, BUTTERSCOTCH, FIGS, RAISINS, STRAWBERRY JAM, OAK
Founded in 1692 by Job Bearsley and still in the same family hands eight generations on, Taylor Fladgate is the only Port house that has never changed ownership. They were the first English merchants to venture upriver into the Douro, the first to buy vineyards there, and the inventors of Late Bottled Vintage Port. Their stone cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia, built in the 18th century, are still in use today.
This Fine Tawny is made from Touriga Nacional foot-trodden in granite lagares at the Douro estates, then aged up to three years in small seasoned oak casks at the Gaia lodge. Pale brick with a broad amber rim — mellow on the nose with butterscotch, figs, and prunes, then smooth and round on the palate with rich strawberry jam at the center. Serve slightly chilled (12–16°C) with dark chocolate, or lightly chilled as an aperitif in the Continental style.
PAIRINGS :
| Dark chocolate | bittersweet cocoa amplifies the raisin, fig, and butterscotch notes; tannin contrast cuts the sweetness |
| Stilton with walnuts | salty blue-vein cheese cuts through the richness; walnuts echo the nutty oak character |
| Crème brûlée | caramel-on-caramel pairing; the crisp sugar crust contrasts the smooth mouthfeel |
