The Hilt draws from two high-altitude estate vineyards—Radian and Bentrock—planted on the rugged, north-facing ridgelines of the Sta. Rita Hills, just 13 miles from the Pacific. Radian climbs to nearly 700 feet on rocky, diatomaceous soils; Bentrock runs 400–500 feet across long rolling hills of clay and shale. Both force vines to dig deep, ripen slowly, and hold acidity even in warm years.
The 2021 is a blend of miscellaneous clones from both sites, aged 11 months in 20% new and 80% neutral French oak. What comes out is simultaneously earth-driven and vivid—black cherry, hibiscus, cigar box, and that distinct salinity the AVA leaves on everything that grows there.
