Thomas Bachelder grew up in Quebec, trained in Burgundy, and spent the mid-2000s building Le Clos Jordanne into one of Niagara’s landmark estates before leaving to make wine under his own name. Les Villages Gamay is his appellation-level blend — a distillation of micro-lots from four trusted Niagara vineyards (Wismer-Foxcroft, Bator, Bai Xu, Willms), vinified with 24% whole cluster, wild yeast, and 16 months in neutral French oak. No new oak. No shortcuts.
The 2022 vintage was shaped by a brutal winter that cut Niagara yields in half — the crop that survived came through concentrated, vibrant, and precise. Wines in Niagara scored it 90 points: “ripe red and dark fruits joined by earthy/savoury notes, light tannins, a hint of cedar and spice and a vibrant finish all lifted by juicy acidity.” 804 cases total. Serve slightly chilled.
PAIRINGS :
| Herb-roasted chicken | the classic Gamay pairing — juicy acidity cuts through the fat and brightens the herbs |
| Charcuterie and pâté | tart red fruit and light tannin are the natural counterpart to cured pork and country pâté |
| Duck breast with cherry reduction | the wine’s red fruit core mirrors the sauce; savory earthiness grounds the richness |
