Upwell is Eric Clemons of Coeur Wine Co. working with a rotating cast of California winemakers to build something specific: a Cab with real character that costs less than $20. The 2021 Lodi fruit came in small and concentrated — a drought year that cut yields but tightened every berry on the vine — and the result is a wine that punches well above its price point.
Fermented in stainless steel and finished in oak, it leads with ripe blackberry and dark cherry, the Petite Sirah adding a thread of pepper and a structural edge that keeps the whole thing from going flat.
