The I Comunali vineyard sits in the historic Classico zone — the original Valpolicella heartland, five communes growing Corvina since the time of the Venetian Republic. Villalta dries the fruit for 110 days before pressing, longer than the DOCG minimum, then ages in 50-hectoliter Slavonian oak casks — large-format vessels chosen to let the fruit carry the wine rather than the wood.
The 2017 growing season ran hot and early, the warmest Veneto summer since 1994. Harvest came in the first week of September, roughly ten days ahead of schedule — small crop, high sugar, a soft and broad structure. Wine Enthusiast: 90 points, drink through 2027.
