Wild Turkey 101 is the straightforward argument for what Kentucky bourbon is supposed to be — high-rye mash bill, charred to the limit, bottled well above the legal minimum. The 101 proof designation traces to a Thomas McCarthy hunting trip in 1940, when the Austin Nichols spirit became the unofficial drink of the party. The name and the number stuck.

Jimmy Russell has been behind the program since 1954 — the longest active tenure of any master distiller in the world. His son Eddie joined in 1981 and became co-master distiller in 2015. The Char #4 barrels extract maximum vanilla and caramel from new American oak while the rye content keeps the finish dry and honest. Barrels typically rest six to eight years before blending.
