Barton dropped the 8-year age statement off 1792 in late 2013, then brought one back in July 2019 at twelve years — a new line extension rather than a restoration, batched once each summer since. Same signature high-rye recipe as the flagship Small Batch, bumped to 96.6 proof and matured in new charred American white oak at the oldest fully operating distillery in Bardstown.

Caramel apple, honey, and confectioners' sugar on the nose, then a palate that runs drier and more grounded than the aromas promise — milk chocolate, brown sugar, and nougat over roasted, aged wood. Rye spice and dry charred oak carry the finish, with cocoa nibs and graham cracker underneath. This is a classic-style Kentucky bourbon that drinks its age rather than a sweet, fruit-forward crowd-pleaser. The Whiskey Jug 90 pts.
