MEXICO : JALISCO : AMATITAN

100% Blue Weber Agave

MEDIUM-BODIED, MESQUITE SMOKE, ROASTED AGAVE, BAKING SPICE, VANILLA, ORANGE ZEST

Amatitán sits in the valley below Volcán Tequila — a UNESCO World Heritage site and the oldest documented site of agave spirit production in Mexico. Amatiteña is built there, by a fifth-generation maestro tequilero named Alberto Partida, using every historical method at once. The agave is cooked in mesquite-fired stone ovens (no steam — this is what creates the smoke character), milled with a tahona wheel, fermented with bagasse in open wood tanks using spring water and ambient yeast, and distilled in original 19th-century copper pot stills. No other brand in production uses all of these methods together.

The Reposado rests two months in enormous French Limousin pipon casks — 23,000 liters, roughly 30× the size of a standard barrel. The large format means less wood contact per liter of liquid, so the oak is gentle rather than dominant. What you get is a mesquite-driven tequila with some softening at the edges: smoke and roasted agave forward, with baking spice, vanilla, and a faintly sweet finish of crème brülée. Verified additive-free by Tequila Matchmaker.
