Araucano Gran Araucano Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 750ml
CHILE : COLCHAGUA VALLEY : LOLOL
BIODYNAMIC : Cabernet Sauvignon
FULL-BODIED, BLACKCURRANT, DARK CHERRY, THYME, BAKING SPICE, OAK
Hacienda Araucano sits in the Lolol Valley, tucked into the coastal mountain range at the southern end of Colchagua. Pacific Ocean proximity is the defining variable here: morning breezes and fog slow ripening through the growing season, pulling temperature down and preserving the herbal complexity — thyme, garrigue — that distinguishes Lolol Cabernet from hotter valley-floor versions.
François Lurton first made Gran Araucano in 1997 from old valley vines; he and his brother Jacques formalized the estate in 2000 by combining seven local parcels into one 200-acre holding. In 2013 the estate converted to Demeter-certified biodynamic viticulture. After hand harvest and five days of cold maceration, the wine ferments with regular pump-overs, macerates another seven to eight days, then ages 18 months in Bordeaux barrels (70% new oak). Wine Enthusiast 90 pts; James Suckling 94 pts.
PAIRINGS :
| Dry-aged ribeye off the grill | firm tannin and dark fruit are built for char and rendered fat |
| Braised lamb shoulder with herbs | garrigue notes in the wine mirror the herbs in the braise |
| Beef Wellington | pastry and mushroom duxelles cut the tannin’s edge; the beef ties both together |
