Six bourbons, four states, ages running 9 to 14 years — Bardstown built the base blend first, then sent it to Napa. Seventeen months in ex-Silver Oak Cabernet barrels followed, which is a long finish by any standard.

Silver Oak has aged its cabernet exclusively in American oak since 1972, so the barrel never leaves the tradition bourbon already lives in. What comes back is less wine-bomb, more bourbon — the cabernet reads as dark fruit and a light tannic grip rather than grape juice, and the nutty, toffee-heavy core holds its shape at 108 proof. Drinkhacker gave it an A.
