Benanti Etna Rosso 2022 750ml
ITALY : SICILY : ETNA DOC
SUSTAINABLE : Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio
MED-BODIED, RED CHERRY, WILD BERRY, VIOLET, EARTH, NEUTRAL OAK
Grapes from north, south-east, and south-west slopes of Etna at 450–900m, vinified with Benanti's proprietary indigenous yeast strains. Nerello Mascalese ages 80% in stainless, 20% in used French oak barriques for 8–10 months. Nerello Cappuccio stays entirely in stainless — preserving freshness and lift. Dry, mineral-driven, persistent. 90 pts Vinous.
Winemaking in the Benanti family traces to the 1800s; the modern estate was founded in 1988 by Cavaliere Giuseppe Benanti, who pioneered Etna's indigenous yeast program and was the first producer with vineyards on every slope of the volcano. Now run by sons Antonio and Salvino. An excellent introduction to the savory wines of Mount Etna.
PAIRINGS :
| Bistecca Fiorentina | tannic grip and mineral cut handle the char and fat cleanly |
| Lamb chops with rosemary | the volcanic earth notes mirror herb-roasted lamb naturally |
| Aged Pecorino or Parmigiano | the wine's salinity and the cheese's create a natural resonance |
