The Koerner Brothers Grenache comes off a roughly 90-year-old block on the family's Gullyview Vineyard in Watervale — red clay over limestone, farmed by the Koerner family for nearly 40 years before Damon and Jono started bottling their own wine in 2014. Hand-harvested, native-fermented in open-top steel with twice-daily hand plunging, then rested eight months in a neutral 2000L Slavonian oak foudre before a month in stainless steel.
Light and savory rather than jammy, with the mintiness Clare Valley reds are known for running under cherry, pomegranate, and rose, and an earthy, slightly saline finish. Best served with a slight chill.
