Brovia Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' 2020 750ml
Brovia Barolo 'Rocche di Castiglione' 2020 750ml
ITALY : PIEMONTE : BAROLO
SUSTAINABLE : Nebbiolo
MED-BODIED, WILD ROSE, RED CHERRY, STAR ANISE, MINERAL, NEUTRAL OAK
Rocche di Castiglione is one of Barolo's fabled crus — 1.5 hectares that Brovia has farmed since 1966, on a southeast-facing slope at 350 meters in Castiglione Falletto. The sandy Tortonian soil here is atypical for the commune, lighter and more permeable than the clay-heavy terrain of neighboring sites. That difference is the reason this wine skews elegant and linear where you might expect something heavier: silky tannins, lifted acidity, a long mineral finish.
Fermented in steel, aged 24 months in large Slavonian and French oak, 24 more in bottle before release. Unfined, unfiltered. The 2020 is warm-vintage Barolo without the extraction — approachable now, built for another decade. Kerin O'Keefe, 96 pts; Vinous, 95 pts.
Sisters Cristina and Elena Brovia, with Elena's husband Alex Sanchez, are the third generation of a family that has made Barolo in Castiglione Falletto since 1863.
PAIRINGS :
| Herb-crusted rack of lamb | classic Barolo pairing — acidity cuts the fat, tannins anchor the protein |
| Beef braised in Barolo | mirrors the wine's own production; amplifies the savory depth |
| Aged Castelmagno or Parmigiano-Reggiano | regional match; mineral finish shines against hard cheese |
