The .2 is the alternative-maturation arm of every Octomore series, and for 12.2 Bruichladdich went back to Sauternes — the cask behind Octomore 4.2 'Comus', one of the distillery's most sought-after bottlings. Concerto barley from the 2014 harvest, peated to 129.7 PPM and distilled in 2015.

Three and a half years in a 50/50 mix of first- and second-fill American whiskey casks, then 18 months in first-fill French Sauternes casks. Matured entirely on Islay, non-chill filtered, no added colour.

Melon, peach and orange peel on the nose, lemon zest and vanilla on the palate, then a salty lemon tang as the peat takes over the finish. More fruit than the numbers suggest. Whisky Advocate 94 pts.
