Octomore 14.1 is distilled from 100% Scottish mainland-grown Concerto barley malted to 128.9 PPM — the same phenolic level as the 14.2, which makes the two expressions a direct side-by-side of barley terroir and cask influence rather than peat level. The 14.1 goes into first-fill ex-bourbon barrels only: no wine casks, no sherry finish, nothing European. American oak for five years.

That simplicity pays off in clarity. The vanilla and citrus from the bourbon casks arrive before the smoke does, and the finish clears to a long, zippy citrus trail. At 119.2 proof it's the most powerful of the three 14s — and counterintuitively, the most approachable.
