Buffalo Trace Distillery sits on the banks of the Kentucky River — one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the United States, tracing its lineage to a site where the ancient buffalo paths that led the continent's earliest pioneers west once ran. Harlen Wheatley has served as Master Distiller since 2005, the sixth in an unbroken line since the Civil War.

The flagship bourbon runs on Mash Bill #1, a low-rye formula of corn, rye, and malted barley. It ages approximately eight years in new charred American oak in century-old warehouses engineered for consistent airflow along the river. Jim Murray's Whisky Bible called it “one of the world's great whiskies” — 139 competition medals and counting.
