Castello Banfi
Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG
ITALY : TUSCANY : MONTALCINO
SUSTAINABLE : Sangiovese
FULL-BODIED, DARK CHERRY, LICORICE, PIPE TOBACCO, OAK
From the Castello di Poggio alle Mura in the southwestern corner of Montalcino, Banfi has shaped this DOCG since the Mariani family planted their estate in 1978. Their clonal research on Sangiovese — conducted with the University of Milan — produced selections now grown across the denomination.
The 2020 vintage earned a five-star rating from the Consorzio del Brunello: a warm, sunny season that pushed full ripeness without losing structure. Winemaker Gabriele Pazzaglia ages 80% of the wine in large French oak casks and 20% in 350L barriques for texture. The result is polished, fruit-forward, and accessible earlier than most Brunello — though it has the structure to develop through 2040.

PAIRINGS :
| Bistecca alla Fiorentina | the classic Tuscan pairing; tannins hold against char and fat |
| Wild boar ragù with pappardelle | gamey richness amplifies the wine's earthy, tobacco-edged core |
| Braised short ribs | slow-cooked fat meets the structure; decant first |
